GENERAL INFORMATION

The ATA Registry is a list of authorized Mexican customs brokers who will support foreign exporters wishing to import goods in Mexico, facilitating the procedures that need to be accomplished.

These Mexican customs brokers have been trained to the processing of ATA Carnets. They must make sure that the Prior Notification is properly filled out. They are also able to solve different problems at customs offices.

It is important to remember that the ATA Registry applies to companies wishing to import goods under cover of Carnets via cargo.

ADVANTAGES OF USING THE ATA REGISTRY

There are several advantages in using one of the customs brokers authorized by CANACO:

  • The broker takes care of the Prior Notification.

  • The broker enjoys the support of CANACO on a 24/7 basis.

  • Additionally, the Mexican customs broker assumes the responsibility of requesting extensions (see Extension of re-export deadline).

RISKS AND MISTAKES OF NOT USING AUTHORIZED MEXICAN CUSTOMS BROKERS

If a foreign company uses the services of a Mexican customs broker that has not been authorized by CANACO, the following problems may occur:

  • delays in the entry of the goods,

  • mistakes in filling out the forms, or

  • fines and penalties due to the non-fulfillment of the deadlines.

There are some risks associated with not using the services of an authorized customs broker and, notably, possible additional charges (for example: storage fees, verifications and additional revisions, etc.)

Moreover, CANACO does not charge the foreign company for using the services of an authorized customs broker.

If the foreign company takes into account the above mentioned information and complies with all the requirements, it will pass through Customs without hurdles.

So, why would not you use the services of authorized customs brokers?
